If you have never been inside an adult-use cannabis dispensary, the threshold can feel higher than it actually is. The first visit is short. The questions our staff ask are simple. The shelf is far less intimidating once someone walks you through it. Here is exactly what to expect when you visit The Highline at 45 Main Street in Hastings-on-Hudson.
What to bring
One thing: a government-issued photo ID showing you are 21 or older. Driver's license, passport, military ID, or NY State non-driver ID all work. We scan IDs at the door and again at the register. We do not retain ID images beyond what NY OCM compliance retention requires.
What we will ask you
Three honest questions, in this order:
- What are you hoping for? Sleep, focus, relaxation, pain relief, social ease, something else?
- What have you tried? Edibles, flower, vape, never? What was the dose?
- What didn't work? If anything has made you uncomfortable in the past, tell us, it shapes what we put in front of you.
There is no wrong answer. The point of the conversation is to make the shelf legible to you, not to grade your experience.
How to dose, the first time
Edibles
Start with 2.5–5 mg THC. Wait 90 minutes before considering more. Edibles onset slow and last 4–6 hours. Patience saves the evening.
Flower or vape
One inhale. Wait 10 minutes. Decide. Inhalation onsets in 5–15 minutes and lasts 1–3 hours, easier to titrate than edibles.
Tinctures
Sublingual onset 20–45 minutes. Start at 2.5 mg. Many adults find a daily 1:1 CBD:THC tincture more useful than any single dose of THC alone.
What to pick
For most first-time visitors at The Highline we suggest one of three starting points. A low-dose edible (2 mg per piece) for slow, controlled evenings. A 1:1 CBD:THC tincture for daytime ease without intoxication. A low-potency pre-roll (under 18% THC) for shareable, social cannabis. Any of the three is a softer landing than buying a high-test cartridge on first contact.
Start low. Go slow. Reassess in 90 minutes, not 9.
After you leave
Per NY law: consume on private property only, your home, or someone else's with permission. Not on the sidewalk, not in your car, not in public parks. Do not drive under the influence. Keep product locked away from children and pets. Do not bring cannabis on a plane, even between two legal states.
