Hastings-on-Hudson was home to America's painter of autumn.

Jasper Francis Cropsey, the Hudson River School painter known as America's painter of autumn, moved to Hastings-on-Hudson in 1885. He named his house here Ever Rest, designed and built a painting studio there, and painted in it for the rest of his career. He died in the village in 1900.

The crimson maples, burnt oak and low gold river light he painted are the palette this season borrows. Come see the real thing from the village in October, then stop in at 45 Main Street.
