Hash
Hash is one of the oldest cannabis concentrates, made by separating the resin-packed trichomes from the flower and pressing them together. Because it concentrates the plant's cannabinoids and terpenes without chemical solvents, hash is usually stronger than flower. It comes mainly as dry sift or bubble hash.

What hash is
Hash, short for hashish, is concentrated cannabis resin. Trichomes are the tiny, frosty glands on cannabis flower that hold most of its THC, CBD, and aromatic terpenes. Hash is made by knocking those trichomes loose, collecting them, and pressing them into a block, ball, or loose powder. Nothing else is added. That is why people call it a solventless concentrate.
Because the trichomes are separated from leaf and stem, hash is more potent than the flower it came from. Potency varies a lot by batch and method, so always check the label and the Certificate of Analysis.
Dry sift vs bubble hash
- ·Dry sift: trichomes are sifted off dried flower through fine mesh screens. No water, no drying step, ready to use after sifting. Often a tan-to-blonde powder.
- ·Bubble hash (ice water hash): flower is agitated in ice water so the cold, brittle trichomes snap off and sink. The collected resin is dried before use. Higher yields and can reach full-melt quality.
- ·Both are solventless. The difference is mechanical screens versus ice and water.
How hash shows up on a menu
On a dispensary menu you may see hash sold loose, pressed into a puck or ball, or as temple ball hash. You might also see it described as 1-star through 6-star, a quality grade tied to how cleanly it melts. Some pre-rolls are infused with hash for an extra kick. Check the COA for cannabinoid percentages and lab testing before you buy.
Is hash legal to buy in New York?
Yes. Adults 21 and older can buy hash at a licensed New York dispensary like The Highline. Hash is a cannabis concentrate, so it counts toward New York's concentrate possession limit. State rules allow up to 24 grams of cannabis concentrate to be carried outside the home. Effects may vary. Please consume responsibly.
Practical takeaway
Hash is a classic, full-flavored way to enjoy concentrated cannabis without solvents. It is commonly associated with a stronger, longer experience than flower, so newer shoppers often start small and go slow. Crumble a little into a bowl, add it to a joint, or vape a quality grade meant for dabbing. Ask a budtender what method fits your hash. Effects may vary. Please consume responsibly.
FAQ · Hash
What is the difference between hash and rosin?
Both are solventless. Hash is pressed trichomes collected by dry sifting or ice water. Rosin goes a step further, using heat and pressure to squeeze the oils out of flower or hash. Live rosin starts from fresh-frozen bubble hash.
Is hash stronger than regular weed?
Usually, yes. Hash concentrates the trichomes that hold most of the THC and terpenes, so it tends to be more potent than the flower it came from. Potency still varies by batch, so check the label and Certificate of Analysis. Effects may vary.
How do you use hash from a dispensary?
Hash is flexible. You can crumble it into a bowl, sprinkle it into a joint, or dab and vape grades made for that. Dry sift and lower-grade bubble hash work well mixed with flower. Full-melt hash is built for dabbing. Ask your budtender.
